3.5 CALIDAD DEL AGUA
De las 26 747 unidades agropecuarias con superficie agr¡cola ba-
jo riego (113 288,47 Has.), 95,3 % tienen buena calidad de agua, 0,9%
se encuentra contaminada con relaves, 1,3 % contaminada con diversas
sustancias, y 2,5 %, se desconoce la calidad. Esto quiere decir que
2 762,73 Has., (2,4 % del total bajo riego), estar¡an siendo regadas
con aguas contaminadas, y de 2 041,64 Has.(1,8 % del total) no se
conoce la calidad del agua.
a. Seg£n Regi¢n
En la Costa, el 95,6% de las unidades tienen agua de buena cali-
dad, para regar 104 354,34 Has. (96,0 % del total bajo riego). Con-
taminada con relaves y con otras sustancias se riegan 2 657,78 Has.
(2,5 %), que se encuentran en 570 UA.
La superficie regada con aguas contaminadas con relaves o con
otras sustancias se eleva en la Sierra a 104,95 Has. (2,2 % del
total de tierras regionales bajo riego). El 89,4 % de las UA declaran
que el agua es de buena calidad para 4 129,77 Has. (89,7 % del total
regional).

b. Seg£n Tama¤o de la Unidad Agropecuaria
En el an lisis departamental por estratos seg£n tama¤o de la UA,
en todos ellos es siempre mayor a 95,0 % la superficie que se riega
con agua de buena calidad, llegando a 98,1 % en el estrato de los
grandes productores. Asimismo, el porcentaje de rea regada con agua
contaminada con otras sustancias es de 1,7 % en el minifundio y en la
peque¤a agricultura, de 1,9 % en los medianos; reduciendose a 0,7 %
en los grandes agricultores.
En las provincias de Chincha (28 744,80) y Nazca (12 833,30)
Has. bajo riego, las proporciones de la calidad del agua siguen la
tendencia departamental. En cambio en Ica, Palpa y Pisco, es notorio
en el £ltimo estrato la proporci¢n de tierra regada con aguas de
buena calidad se eleva a 99,9 % para la provincia de Ica y 100 % para
Palpa y Pisco.

En la Costa, se tiene 108 682,05 Has. bajo riego de las cuales
el 96,0 % se riegan con agua de buena calidad y 2,5 con agua con re-
laves o con otras sustancias. En los cuatro estratos esta tendencia
es general.
En la Sierra, por su parte existe, aunque en una proporci¢n me-
nor la tendencia es a utilizar agua de buena calidad, siendo los
peque¤os productores los m s favorecidos (92,4 %).
