6.1 PARTICIPACION DEL HOGAR EN LA ACTIVIDAD AGROPECUARIA
En los hogares de los 6 938 productores individuales del depar-
tamento de Tumbes que conducen 25 280,52 Has. existen 37 855 miembros,
entre hijos e hijas, conyuges, parientes y otras personas viviendo en
los hogares. Esto determina un promedio de 5,46 miembros por hogar.
Del total de miembros de estos hogares, el 35,3 % participan en
las labores agropecuarias de las propias unidades agropecuarias y 5,8
% participan en tareas de otras unidades agropecuarias.
Los resultados para este tema, por provincias, son parecidos a
los encontrados para el departamento en su conjunto. S줹o es destaca-
ble la provincia de Contralmirante Villar, donde la participaci줻 de
los miembros en las propias UA crece a 52,4 % y en otras UA decrece a
3,7 %.

La investigaci줻 de acuerdo al tama쨚 de las unidades agropecua-
rias arroja resultados parecidos a los hallados para todo el departa-
mento, excepto en el estrato de los grandes agricultores (con UA de
50,0 y m쟳 Has.) donde la participaci줻 de los miembros de los hogares
en las propias fincas crece a 62,2 % y en otras fincas decrece a 2,2 %.

Seg즢 el Censo, de los 37 855 miembros de estos hogares, 20 116
son hombres y 17 739 son mujeres, a nivel departamental, el 57,3 % de
los hombres participan en las tareas de las propias unidades y las mu-
jeres s줹o lo hacen en 10,3 %. El Censo tambi굈 d� a conocer que en
Contralmirante Villar se tiene la mayor participaci줻 de hombres
(68,7 %) y mujeres (32,4 %); y en las otras dos provincias, la parti-
cipaci줻 es parecida a la descrita para todo el departamento.

La participaci줻 en las labores agropecuarias de los miembros
del hogar, tomando en cuenta si son hijos u otros miembros del hogar y
si son menores o mayores de 15 a쨚s de edad, es la siguiente:
Del total de los miembros del hogar que participan, el mayor
porcentaje corresponde a los otros miembros mayores de 15 a쨚s (63,1
%); seguidos de los hijos mayores de 15 a쨚s (27,7 %); en tercer lugar
y muy por debajo, se hallan los hijos menores de 15 a쨚s (7,7 %); y
con una participaci줻 m죒ima, los otros miembros menores de 15 a쨚s
(1,5 %).
Las relaciones descritas para el total de los miembros del hogar,
se mantienen con porcentajes muy parecidos tanto para los hombres como
para las mujeres.
T굈gase presente que los menores de 15 a쨚s de edad y las muje-
res adultas no cumplen su trabajo a jornada completa. Los menores por-
que combinan las tareas de campo con sus estudios y las mujeres por
que adem쟳 tienen que atender los quehaceres del hogar. El trabajo de
los menores de 15 a쨚s est� ligado sobre todo a cuidar de los animales,
llevarlos a pastorear en las ma쨅nas y recogerlos en las tardes, a
juntar y quemar la maleza cortada y a realizar algunas tareas de la
cosecha.

Los resultados del censo de 1994 sobre el mismo tema, conside-
rando el tama쨚 de las fincas, se쨅la que los porcentajes dados a co-
nocer para el departamento en su conjunto, son tambi굈 parecidos en
cada uno de los estratos de unidades.
En los tres primeros estratos, si bien la m쟳 alta participaci줻
corresponde a los otros miembros mayores de 15 a쨚s, 굎ta se presen-
ta con m쟳 굈fasis (65,6 %) en los medianos agricultores (con UA de
10,0 a 49,9 Has.). El siguiente grupo de participaci줻, al igual que
en el departamento, es tambi굈 el de los hijos mayores de 15 a쨚s,
destacando en este caso (con 31,8 %), los peque쨚s agricultores (con
UA de 3,0 a 9,9 Has.).
Las diferencias saltantes se presentan en el estrato de los
grandes agricultores (con UA de 50,0 y m쟳 Has.), donde la participa-
ci줻 de los otros mayores de 15 a쨚s se eleva hasta 73,2 % y desapare-
ce la de los otros menores de 15 a쨚s.
