3.5 CALIDAD DEL AGUA
De las 34427 unidades agropecuarias con superficie agr¡cola
bajo riego (54 953,43 Has.), 86,3 % tienen buena calidad de agua, 2,4
% se encuentra contaminada con relaves, 2,5 % contaminada con diversas
sustancias, y 8,8 %, se desconoce la calidad. Esto quiere decir que
2 729,39 Has., (5,0 % del total bajo riego), estar¡an siendo regadas
con aguas contaminadas, y de 3 978,19 Has. (7,3 % del total) no se
conoce la calidad del agua.
a. Seg£n Regi¢n
En la Sierra, el 86,4 % de las unidades tienen agua de buena
calidad, para regar 48 193,85 Has. (88,0 % del total bajo riego). Con
agua contaminada con relaves y con otras sustancias se riegan 2 721,14
Has.(4,9 %), que se encuentran en 1 687 UA.
En la Selva, el 28,3 % de las unidades agropecuarias tienen agua
de buena calidad, el 9,4 % de UA con agua contaminada con relaves y
del 62,3 % de UA no sabe la calidad del agua que utiliza para regar
las 116,50 Has. (65,9 %).

b. Seg£n Tama¤o de la Unidad Agropecuaria
En el an lisis departamental por estratos, seg£n tama¤o de la
UA, la superficie que se riega con agua de buena calidad, en todos
ellos es siempre mayor a 80,0 %, llegando a 88,6 % en el estrato de
los peque¤os agricultores. Asimismo, el porcentaje de rea regada con
agua contaminada con otras sustancias es de 2,9 % en el minifundio y
en la peque¤a agricultura 2,0 %, de 2,1 % en los medianos;reduci‚ndose
a 0,2 % en los grandes agricultores.
La superficie agr¡cola bajo riego, representa el 46,3 % de
superficie de la provincia de Huanuco, Ambo el 16,6 %, Pachitea el
11,6 %, Dos de Mayo el 8,6 % y Huacaybamba el 7,5 %, entre las
principales que disponen con buena calidad de agua.
La mayor superficie se encuentra en Huamalies, con 94,2 % de la
superficie agr¡cola bajo riego de la provincia. En cambio Puerto Inca,
s¢lo presenta agua contaminada con relaves en el 5,5 % de la
superficie y en el 94,5 % de la superficie agr¡cola bajo riego no se
sabe de la calidad de agua.

c. Seg£n Regi¢n
En la Sierra, se tiene 54 776,68 Has. bajo riego, de las cuales
el 88,0 % riegan con agua de buena calidad y el 4,9 % con agua con
relaves o con otras sustancias. En los cuatro estratos esta tendencia
es general.
En la Selva, existe, aunque en una proporci¢n menor la tendencia
es a utilizar agua de buena calidad, siendo los peque¤os productores
lo s m s favorecidos (93,1 %). Del 65,9 % de la superficie bajo riego
no se sabe de la calidad del agua.
