1.9 SUFICIENCIA DE LA ACTIVIDAD AGROPECUARIA
El 84,1 % de los productores arequipe¤os, que conducen el 69,4%
de las tierras agropecuarias del departamento, declaran que esta ac-
tividad no les produce ingresos suficientes para atender los gastos
del hogar o de la empresa. En cambio, el 14,5% de ellos, con el
10,5 % de las tierras, afirman que estos ingresos obtenidos por la
actividad agropecuaria son suficientes para atender los gastos men-
cionados.
a. Seg£n Provincia
A nivel provincial, los resultados son parecidos a lo obtenido
para el departamento, con ligeras diferencias. En Arequipa, Caman ,
Caylloma, Condesuyos, Islay y la Uni¢n, el 86,8%, 85,4%, 82,8%, 86,3%,
86,3% y 87,2% respectivamente de los productores, declararon que los
ingresos obtenidos por la actividad agropecuaria, son insuficientes
para atender los gastos del hogar o de la empresa.
Asimismo es destacable mencionar que el porcentaje de los que
declararon la suficiencia de sus ingresos aumenta a 24,4% en Caraveli
y es menor en Arequipa donde dismunuye a 12,0 %.

b. Seg£n Regi¢n Natural
La distribuci¢n de los productores que declararon suficiencia o
insuficiencia de la actividad agropecuaria para atender los gastos
del hogar, se mantiene tanto a nivel departamental como por regiones,
con la diferencia, que en la Sierra, la superficie que cubre aque-
llos que consideraron insuficiente la actividad representa el 70,0 %
del total regional (frente al 56,5 % de la costa).

c. Otras Actividades Realizadas en el Entorno de la Unidad Agro-
pecuaria
Unicamente el 13,4 % de los productores 5 956 que tienen UA con
tierras trabajadas y conducen 372 663,35 % Has., realizan otras acti-
vidades distintas a la agropecuaria, con el prop¢sito de obtener in-
gresos complementarios para cubrir la insuficiencia de recursos que
genera esta actividad. Adicionalmente y en orden de importancia, se
dedican a la fabricaci¢n de artesan¡a (30,9 %) y al comercio basica-
mente (14,1 %).

d. Seg£n Tama¤o de las Unidades agropecuarias
De los 5 996 productores que realizan otras actividades, el
74,5 % de ellos est n distribuidos entre minifundistas (50,9 %) y
peque¤os productores (23,6 %). Los primeros se dedican principal-
mente a la fabricaci¢n de artesan¡a (24,9 % del total del estrato),
mientras que los segundos a la elaboraci¢n de productos derivados.
Otra actividad importante para los minifundistas son el comercio
(16,9 %) y la elaboraci¢n de productos derivados; en los peque¤os a-
parte de esta £ltima actividad, se dedican a la fabricaci¢n de arte-
san¡a (18,3 %) y al comercio (14,4 %) principalmente.

Los medianos productores (con UA entre 10,0 y 49,9 Has.) se de-
dican de preferencia a la fabricaci¢n de artesan¡a (42,2%), al comer-
cio (8,6 %), a la elaboraci¢n de productos derivados (7,1 %) y al al-
quiler de maquinaria agr¡cola (60,1 %).
Los productores de la gran agricultura (con UA de 50,0 y m s
Has.) se dedican en su mayor¡a, a la fabricaci¢n de artesan¡a (65,3
%), en segundo lugar al comercio (7,5%) y en tercer lugar la elabora-
ci¢n de productos de derivados (2,5 %).
