1.6 CONDICION DE ALFABETISMO
El 71,0 % de los 113 112 productores agropecuarios
individuales que conducen el 77,8 % del total de tierras
agropecuarias, saben leer y escribir. En cambio, el 27,2 % que
conducen el 19,5 % de las tierras, por su condici¢n de
analfabetos, est n en desventaja para conocer por medios
escritos lo relacionado con la t‚cnica y administraci¢n de sus
respectivas unidades productivas.
a. Seg£n Provincia
En las 20 provincias de Ancash predominan los productores
alfabetos, sobre los analfabetos. La provincia de Ocros,
concentra el mayor porcentaje de productores alfabetos
(91,1%), bajando ligeramente el porcentaje en Huarmey (90,8%),
Aija (87,8%), Bolognesi (87,3%) hasta llegar a Pomabamba
(49,7%), provincia con el mismo porcentaje de analfabetos.
Por otra parte, sobresale el hecho de los productores de
la provincia de Pomabamba, que tienen el mayor n£mero de
personas que no saben leer y escribir en relaci¢n con las
dem s provincias, seguidos por Mariscal Luzuriaga (42,7 %),
Asunci¢n (41,7 %), Carlos F. Fitzcarrald (45,4 %), Yungay y
Sihuas con el 34,3 % y 30,9 % de productores analfabetos
respectivamente.

b. Seg£n Grupos de Edad
En todos los grupos de edad es predominante el porcentaje
de productores que saben leer y escribir. Los m s altos,
corresponde a los que tienen menos de 30 a¤os de edad, y 30 a
44 a¤os con el 87,4 % y 82,7 % respectivamente siguiendo una
tendencia decreciente en los dem s grupos, hasta bajar a 57,1%
en el grupo de productores que tienen 65 y m s a¤os de edad.

c. Seg£n Tama¤o de las Unidades Agropecuarias
La condici¢n de alfabetismo seg£n los estratos, muestra
una relaci¢n creciente de los productores alfabetos a medida
que aumenta el tama¤o de las UA, hasta el estrato de los
medianos productores, para luego declinar.
Los que saben leer y escribir constituyen el 68,4%, en el
estrato del minifundio, siguen creciendo hasta llegar a 82,8%
en el estrato de la mediana agricultura, para bajar a 80,3 %
en el estrato de la gran agricultura.
d. Seg£n Regi¢n Natural
Los resultados del censo de 1994 indican que los
alfabetos constituyen el 82,8 % de los productores de la Costa
y el 69,8% de los agricultores de la Sierra; y los que no
saben leer y escribir, representan el 14,6 % de los
agricultores de la Costa y el 28,5 % de la Sierra.
En ambas regiones se observa una tendencia diferente al
vincular la condici¢n de alfabetismo con el tama¤o de las
unidades agropecuarias. Es importante se¤alar que el mayor
porcentaje de alfabetos en la Costa, se encuentra en el
estrato de los grandes productores (100,0 % de ellos) y en la
Sierra, en el estrato de los medianos productores (81,4%) para
bajar a 79,6 % en los grandes productores.
